Il Mulino

Il Mulino della Rinchiosa is an 18th century water mill which has been transformed into a beautiful rustic home.  It was completely restored only few years ago.  The owners have tried to preserve as much as possible of the original features using either restored or local materials.  The house is located in the heart of Tuscany, nestled in the Valdarno hills, just below the Pratomagno mountain range, famous for its beauty and for its many walking paths.  It is also in the Tuscan triangle of Florence, Siena and Arezzo, all of them reachable by a short drive.

The property is surrounded by wild woods through which runs a spectacular stream, perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot summer day. Il Mulino is the ideal place for nature lovers, birdwatchers, hikers and peace seekers. Once you get there you will never want to leave! You will forget about your everyday life in this amazing place.

Il Mulino is composed of two buildings, the main house and a guest cottage.  The main house can accommodate at least six people comfortably.  Outside the front door is a dining area under a pergola across which run a spectacular wisteria and a grape vine. On the ground floor there is a cosy entrance hall/reception room with a fireplace and stairs down to the lower (mill) level, a central study with a large writing desk, and a larger living room with a sofa (which can be transformed into an additional double bed), a television and a music system.  Off the central room are a utility room and guest toilet and stairs to the first floor. On the first floor are three comfortable double bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom with shower; the other two bedrooms share a bathroom with bath and shower.  Abundant wardrobe capacity is provided in all of the rooms.  On the lower level we have the best part of the house, which is the old mill.  Here the millstones and much of the original machinery - which has been completely restored and brought back to its original splendour - can be seen.  The mill forms the main dining room with a large table and a wood-burning stove.  Adjacent to the mill is the kitchen - up to date appliances in an antique setting. Glazed double doors from the mill and a large glass door from the kitchen lead outside to the river frontage. At the side of the house is an outside shower with a view of the countryside - and hot water to follow a swim in the crystal-clear but invigoratingly cold stream which runs a few steps away.  The cottage has two double bedrooms (one of which is a convertible twin) and a bathroom with shower; it can accommodate up to four people.  All of the rooms enjoy glorious views of the river and the surrounding mountains.   Il Mulino is set in a beautiful and well kept garden. Planting has been left predominantly natural and wild, with the use of local plants and flowers.  The owners gave much thought to the installation of the swimming pool.  They wanted to respect the beautiful environment and so have built a pool which seems to form a natural part of the garden, using a salt water filtration system which requires only minimal use of chlorine. Not only is this is an elegant and eco-friendly solution, sustainable and at ease with the environment, but it is also a safe and fun place to take a dip - and the water temperature is not quite as cold as the river!
